Description
The Land Rover Defender 6×6 is a genuine, though niche, real world modification rather than a factory production configuration. Six wheel Defender conversions have been built by specialist coachbuilders in the United Kingdom, such as Foley Specialist Vehicles and the historic Reynolds Boughton, who add a third axle to standard Defender 90, 110, or 130 chassis to increase load capacity, stability, and off road capability. These conversions typically retain the Defender’s original transfer case, axles, and coil suspension while installing a custom secondary transfer case to drive the extra rear axle, resulting in a formidable go anywhere vehicle historically used by militaries, agricultural operations, and specialist off road enthusiasts.
The standard Land Rover Defender itself, produced under various names from the late 1940s through 2016 before adopting the Defender name in 1990, remains one of the most recognizable and rugged off road vehicles ever built, prized for its aluminium alloy bodywork, steel ladder chassis, and reputation for going virtually anywhere. The six wheeled variant takes that already formidable off road pedigree and extends it further, trading some agility for significantly increased load capacity and stability on rough terrain.
This particular casting is part of the Matchbox: The Movie tie in range, produced ahead of the film’s release on Apple TV+ in October 2026. Directed by Sam Hargrave and starring John Cena and Jessica Biel, the movie follows a group of friends clearing their name after being framed, with several vehicles from the film recreated by Matchbox at 1:64 scale, this six wheeled Defender among them.
