Description
The Porsche 918 Spyder stands as one of the most significant hypercars of the 2010s, built as part of the celebrated “Holy Trinity” alongside the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari. Produced from 2013 to 2015 in a strictly limited run of 918 examples, the 918 Spyder combined a naturally aspirated 4.6 litre V8 with two electric motors, one on each axle, for a combined output of 887 horsepower and genuine all wheel drive plug in hybrid capability. It could run on electric power alone for short distances, yet still reach 60 mph in around 2.6 seconds and set a production car lap record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, becoming the first all wheel drive production car to break the seven minute barrier on that circuit.
Its hybrid hypercar formula went on to influence Porsche’s Le Mans winning 919 Hybrid race car, cementing the 918’s place as a genuine turning point for performance hybridization across the entire industry. With a starting price of around 845,000 US dollars, every example sold out well before production ended, making the 918 Spyder one of the most sought after and historically important Porsches of the modern era.
Matchbox brings this landmark hypercar into its Mainline series, numbered 109 out of 125, finished in a striking Blue paint that highlights the 918’s sharp, aerodynamic body lines and low, wide stance at 1:64 scale. The casting captures the car’s distinctive rear mounted wing, prominent air intakes, and mid engine proportions, giving collectors an accurate scale tribute to one of the most important supercars of the modern era.
