Description
The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 carries forward a nameplate with more than seven decades of history, dating back to the legendary 300 SL of 1954. The current generation, part of the seventh generation SL line, marks a major shift for the model as the first SL to fall entirely under the AMG performance division, sharing its platform, powertrain, and much of its interior structure with the AMG GT coupe. Built exclusively at AMG’s Affalterbach facility, the SL 63 is powered by a handcrafted 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 producing 577 horsepower and 590 lb ft of torque, paired with a 9 speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission and AMG’s Performance 4MATIC+ all wheel drive system.
True to the SL’s long standing character, the car blends serious performance with genuine luxury, featuring an electric soft top, adaptive AMG Active Ride Control suspension, and rear axle steering for sharper handling at speed. It sits above the SL 55 in the lineup and below the range topping SL 63 S E Performance, a plug in hybrid variant that pushes output past 800 horsepower, making the SL 63 the sweet spot of the range for those chasing that classic V8 roadster experience.
Matchbox brings this modern AMG roadster into its Mainline series, numbered 31 out of 125. This casting is finished in a vibrant Yellow paint with a black interior and black wheels, capturing the SL’s low, wide stance and folded soft top open cockpit styling. The prominent front grille, sculpted hood lines, and sporty proportions are well represented at 1:64 scale, giving collectors an accurate, eye catching take on one of Mercedes-AMG’s current flagship convertibles.
