Description
The Lexus LFA stands as one of the most revered supercars of the 21st century, born from a vision by Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda to create a genuine world class supercar capable of competing with Europe’s best. First unveiled in production form at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show after nearly a decade of development, the LFA became the first standalone F model in Lexus history, drawing engineering resources directly from Toyota’s Formula 1 program to achieve a level of precision and performance the brand had never attempted before.
At the heart of the LFA sat a genuinely special 4.8 litre naturally aspirated V10, co developed with Yamaha and capable of revving from idle to its 9,000 rpm redline in just 0.6 seconds, an engine response so instantaneous that Lexus had to fit a digital tachometer since a traditional analog needle could not physically keep pace. Extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic throughout the chassis and body kept the LFA’s weight to just 1,480 kg, delivering a 0 to 62 mph time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph. The range topping Nürburgring Package variant, developed using lessons learned from LFA prototypes raced at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, set a 7 minute 14 second lap time around the legendary Nordschleife, breaking the road legal production car lap record at the time it was set.
Lexus built just 500 examples of the LFA between 2010 and 2012, with each car hand assembled at a rate of only 20 per month and finished with a numbered plaque signed by the specialist responsible for its build. White remains the most iconic color associated with the LFA, a fitting choice for a car widely regarded as a defining, once in a generation achievement for the Lexus brand. Hot Wheels celebrates this legendary Japanese supercar as part of its Timeless Icons range within the Car Culture series, an imported line known for its detailed, adult collector focused castings, capturing the LFA’s low, aggressive proportions at 1:64 scale.
