Description
The Mazda RX-3, launched in September 1971 and known in its home market as the Savanna, stands as one of the most historically significant rotary powered cars Mazda has ever built. Smaller and sportier than the earlier RX-2, the RX-3 shared its underlying platform with the piston engined Grand Familia and 808 models, but its Wankel rotary engine, initially a 10A unit upgraded to the more powerful 12A shortly after launch, gave it a genuinely different character and competitive edge that set it apart on both road and track.
The RX-3’s most legendary achievement came at the 1972 Japanese Grand Prix, where driver Yoshimi Katayama piloted the car to a stunning victory over Nissan’s dominant “Hakosuka” Skyline GT-R, denying Nissan what would have been its 50th consecutive race win. This single result cemented the RX-3’s reputation as a genuine giant killer and sparked a fierce, ongoing rivalry between Mazda’s rotary technology and Nissan’s inline six powered Skylines throughout Japanese domestic racing. By the 1976 JAF Touring Car Grand Prix, the RX-3 had racked up its 100th domestic racing victory, and its competitive success extended well beyond Japan, with entries at Australia’s Bathurst 1000, Europe’s Spa 24 Hours, and America’s IMSA and SCCA series, along with a factory backed Gatorade liveried entry at the 1978 Daytona 24 Hours.

This casting is finished in a vibrant Yellow paint with striking green accents, built with a complete Metal/Metal body and chassis paired with genuine Real Riders rubber tires, capturing the RX-3’s compact, purposeful proportions at 1:64 scale.
