Description
The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth stands as one of the most celebrated performance Fords ever built, developed to homologate a genuinely competitive touring and rally car for Group A racing regulations that required at least 5,000 examples to be produced. First presented at the 1985 Geneva Motor Show, the Sierra Cosworth became the first production car ever to wear the Cosworth badge, and by the time the required 5,000 units rolled out of Ford’s Genk factory in Belgium, Group A homologation was formally approved on January 1, 1987, paving the way for the car’s dominant on track career that same year.
Despite its brutish, wing equipped looks initially worrying Ford’s own dealers, who doubted they could sell more than 1,500 units, the Sierra Cosworth quickly proved its worth once racing began in 1987, winning almost immediately in touring car competition around the world. Power came from a turbocharged 2.0 litre four cylinder engine producing 201 horsepower in road trim, enough for a 0 to 60 mph time of 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph, all wrapped in a package that retained genuine Sierra Ghia levels of interior comfort alongside sportier Recaro seats. The car’s motorsport legacy extended well into the World Rally Championship too, where drivers like Stig Blomqvist campaigned the Sierra Cosworth through the late 1980s, cementing its reputation as one of the definitive homologation specials of its era.
Hot Wheels celebrates this legendary “people’s champion” performance Ford as part of its Canyon Warriors range within the Car Culture series, an imported line known for its detailed, adult collector focused castings. This casting is finished in a crisp White paint that highlights the Sierra Cosworth’s distinctive rear wing and boxy hatchback silhouette at 1:64 scale, rolling on dark gold 10 spoke Real Riders tires, numbered 2 out of 5 in the series.
