The Lexus RC F GT3 was developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing as a purpose built grand touring race car for the highly competitive international GT3 category, running parallel to the development of the road going RC F high performance coupe when both were conceived in 2014. Unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the RC F GT3 retains the front engine, rear wheel drive layout and monocoque of the production RC F, in keeping with GT3 regulations requiring race cars to stay closely related to their commercial counterparts, while Lexus’s signature spindle grille and body lines carry over onto a heavily reworked, race focused shell.

Under the bodywork, the RC F GT3 is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.4 litre V8 producing over 500 horsepower, paired with a 6 speed sequential gearbox and a full complement of racing hardware including a comprehensive roll cage, four way adjustable Ohlins coilovers, and extensive carbon fiber bodywork designed to shift the car’s weight distribution rearward for better balance. After a development phase running in Germany’s VLN Endurance Series and Japan’s Super GT championship, the RC F GT3 officially entered full competition in 2017, fielded by American squad 3GT Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GTD class, alongside entries in the European International GT Open and Japanese Super GT series. The car has gone on to win in every major series it has competed in, cementing its place as a genuinely successful and well regarded international GT3 competitor.
