Description
The Chevrolet Corvette C8.R represents the most important debut in Corvette Racing’s storied history, arriving as the team’s first ever mid engine GT Le Mans challenger built to campaign the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Developed by Pratt Miller alongside the road going eighth generation Corvette Stingray, the C8.R made its dramatic public debut alongside the production car at the Kennedy Space Center, representing a genuine technology transfer between street and track engineering rather than a simple race tuned variant.
Powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5 litre V8 producing approximately 500 horsepower, the C8.R made its competitive racing debut at the 2020 Rolex 24 at Daytona, continuing Corvette Racing’s remarkable legacy of success that stretches back to 1999, a period during which the team has claimed 107 race wins, the most of any professional sports car team in North America, alongside 13 IMSA team championships. The C8.R went on to win both the 2020 and 2021 IMSA SportsCar Championships, later adding a 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship title before being retired at the end of the 2023 season, making way for the Corvette Z06 GT3.R. The distinctive Silver livery worn by the No. 4 car draws direct inspiration from iconic Corvette concepts of the past, including the 1973 Chevrolet Aerovette and the 1959 Corvette Stingray Racer, connecting the modern racer to decades of Corvette design heritage.
