Description
The 2017 Ford GT marked the triumphant return of one of Ford’s most legendary nameplates, arriving as the second generation of the GT nearly a decade after the original 2005 to 2006 model ended production. Unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the new GT was launched to mark 50 years since Ford’s historic 1 2 3 finish at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, a victory that famously ended Ferrari’s dominance at the race. Rather than continuing with the original’s supercharged V8, the second generation GT switched to a 3.5 litre twin turbocharged EcoBoost V6 producing 647 horsepower, propelling the car from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds and on to a top speed of 216 mph, making it the fastest production Ford ever built at the time.
Built around a carbon fiber monocoque chassis with aluminum front and rear subframes, the GT was manufactured by Canadian firm Multimatic in a strictly limited run, with roughly one car built each day between December 2016 and the model’s eventual end of production in 2022, for a total run of 1,350 units. Demand vastly outstripped that limited supply, and Ford implemented a selective application process for prospective buyers, adding to the car’s exclusivity. Racing was central to the GT’s identity from the start, with the race variant winning its class at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, exactly 50 years after the GT40’s legendary victory, cementing the new GT’s place as a genuine successor to Ford’s motorsport heritage.
Hot Wheels brings this modern supercar icon into its HW Exotics range, finished in a clean White paint that highlights the GT’s dramatic side pod design, low roofline, and aggressive rear wing at 1:64 scale. The casting captures the real car’s sculpted, aerodynamic bodywork, giving collectors an accurate tribute to one of the most celebrated modern American supercars.
